The first known use of the term 'Easter Monday' began in the 15th century. The Monday after Easter is a day of strong religious significance for those Christian, and it is observed on Sunday. All followers of Jesus Christ together hold the Messiah's return to Earth in their own way although different cultures observe this day with different traditions. It is called "Angel's Monday" by the Catholic Church and they really like to call it by that name.
Jesus remained on Earth for 40 days after being crucified and resurrected from the dead, during which he appeared to believers, healed the sick, and spread God's message. Jesus' actions also contributed to the founding of the first congregation. It is believed that Jesus ascended to heaven 40 days after His Reurection.
Easter Monday is not explicitly religious. Holding outdoor processions and parades are the often ways that some Christian groups observe this day. Some organize and participate in Easter egg rolling contests. It is known as Wet Monday for others, in which by pouring buckets of water over each other spouses and siblings wake each other up. Easter Monday is celebrated with a joyful tradition of adding an extra day before the final carnival ends.
As a symbolic symbol that heaven is open to all at the resurrection of Jesus, Easter Monday begins the Bright Week according to the Eastern Orthodox community. Bright Week is the brightest of all where the holy doors of the sanctuary that is still open and it is celebrated after Easter.
Though largely ignored in the United States, Easter Monday is a day to spend with family outside, playing fun games, having a picnic, and enjoying the spring flowers.
Congress banned the egg-rolling tradition on Capitol Hill in the 1870s, so President Rutherford Hayes issued an order authorizing the White House to reorganize the beloved egg-rolling race. The tradition has continued since then.
