Larry Ward, an organizer of Gun Appreciation Day on January 19, started his week by joining a talk show with Al Sharpton. Martin Luther King, Ward said, would approve Gun Appreciation Day - the civil rights leader once tried to get a gun but was denied a permit. Sharpton, enraged, countered that King believed in nonviolence and was killed by a bullet.
