Holy Monday
Holy Monday is observed next on Monday, April 14th, 2025 (144 days from today).
Holy Monday occurred one day after Palm Sunday every year in order to celebrate the time when the Holy Spirit appeared to the Apostles and told them to go and teach Christianity to the world.
Our Savior's holy Passion begins today, presenting Saint Joseph perfectly as a model of Christ. He was the eleventh son of Jacob, and the firstborn of Rachel. Because he loved his father so much, his brothers were jealous of him and threw him into the pit. Then they sold him to a foreigner for thirty taels of silver, who later sold him in Egypt. Because of his virtue, his master gave him much authority in the management of his home; because he was fair in character, his master's wife sought to draw him into sin with her; Because of her chastity, he rejected her, and through her slander was sent to prison. In the end, he was led out once more with great glory and glorified as a king. He became the lord over all the land of Egypt and the supplier of wheat to the people. Through all of this, he typified the betrayal, Passion, death, and glorification of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In memory of Patriarch Joseph, an account is also added concerning the fig tree, which on this day was cursed and later withered because it could not be picked. It describes the synagogue, which did not produce the fruit it requested, that is, obedience to God and faith in Him and was stripped of all spiritual grace due to the curse.

Orthros' ceremonies that take place on Good Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are called the Feast of the Groom, which takes its name from the protagonist of the famous parable of the Ten Virgins. The title of the film The Precious Bridegroom evokes the closeness and friendliness of love. It is not unreasonable to compare the Kingdom of God to a wedding banquet and a wedding hall. The Christ is Bridegroom. Sacred of the Church The image implies the ultimate union of the Beloved and the beloved. The title Bridegroom also hints at Parousia, the Second Coming of Christ.
Each day of Holy Week has its own theme. The theme of Good Monday (celebrated in anticipation on Palm Sunday evening) is that of a barren fig tree that bears no fruit and is condemned. The theme of Good Tuesday (held on the evening of Good Monday) is the vigilance of the wise virgins, who are not like everyone else and all people are ready to greet the arrival of Lord. On Good Wednesday (celebrated on the evening of Holy Tuesday), the focus is on the sinful woman who repents. In the liturgical rites much emphasis is placed on comparing the woman, a saved sinner girl, with Judas, a chosen apostle who went missing. He gave his riches to Christ and kissed His feet; the other betrayed Christ for money with a kiss.
