National Griper's Day
National Griper's Day is observed next on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025 (144 days from today).
National Griper's Day was founded by a freelance writer from Columbus, Ohio, named Jack Gilbert, on April 15th since 1984.
History of National Griper's Day
Jack Gilbert, a freelance writer from Columbus, Ohio was its creator in an effort "to give the disgruntled, frustrated, and depressed a new audience." He thinks the introduction of this day will help encourage and bring back "old-fashioned personal communication" and "make people feel like humans again and not be afraid of high technology, computers and all those things.
Gilbert released his name, phone number and address so people could call him up. "If I'm right that it's getting harder and harder for people to listen to you, then the whole idea of people calling is good," he said. At the first year, there were many complaints about different matters such as consumer costs, space junk, weather effects, unemployment, and chemicals in food, which people called Gilbert. He also says that in the first year, a number of schools, pubs and communities rallied people together to create "dining corner" bulletin boards where complaints were made. Gilbert was inspired by these after stopping at Speakers' Corner in London, a place where one listens to orators with soapboxes. Gilbert also hopes that small communities will designate a date and let people gather together in their parks.
How to celebrate National Griper's Day
If you have not any idea for celebrating National Griper's Day, let follow us. Firstly, do not mark the day by calling family members and friends and asking them about whatever is bothering you. Maybe you're fed up with littering in your neighborhood, with pollution, with high gas prices, or with certain politicians. Perhaps you're sick of spam, phone calls from your robot, or your upstairs neighbor. No matter what upsets you, you are free to talk about it today. However, National Griper's Day isn't necessarily negative. Part of the reason for the day is for people to speak up and listen to each other. Besides calling people over the phone to flirt, you can set up a handler's corner in a place you frequent and you and others can express your grievances there.
