History of National Moscow Mule Day
NORWALK, Conn., October 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ - Tortilla chip. Practice dancing. Cheese flavored pizza. Knot. There seems to be a national day for everything… except for the country's most sought-after cocktail: the Moscow Mule. Food and drink trends come and go, however, no vodka cocktail is more iconic than the Moscow Mule. SMIRNOFF vodka founded the Moscow Mule in origin in 1941, the most popular vodka cocktail is finally launched.
In tribute to the importance of Moscow Mule in cocktail history and its impact on cocktail culture, SMIRNOFF™ vodka and Foodimentary, the official go-to source for all culinary holidays, announced March 3 is Moscow Mule National Day. SMIRNOFF™ vodka announced yesterday night as the country's best-selling vodka brand welcoming guests to the 75th anniversary of Moscow Mule with a one-of-a-kind immersive cocktail party that takes guests back in time. An event in 1941 explained how the cocktail became a pop culture sensation. The event took place just a short distance from where cocktails were invented on Hollywood's sunset strip.
Moscow Mule National Day - March 3 or "March 3" - is significant. Original Moscow Mule is handcrafted with three ingredients: No. 21 SMIRNOFF™ vodka, premium ginger ale and lemon. As the story goes on, there were also three key people involved in the creation of the cocktail: the first, John G. Martin, had trouble in selling SMIRNOFF vodka when brown spirits were king. The second, Jack Morgan, owner of a popular pub on the Sunset Strip, couldn't convince patrons to try his ginger ale. A third person, a woman named Ozeline Schmidt, provided bronze cups, the perfect vases for enjoying the magnificent creation they call Mule Moscow. Three of them have combined their crafts together and create cocktail culture with Moscow Mule at the same time.
Jay Sethi, VP of Marketing, SMIRNOFF said that the Moscow Mule is a wonderful cocktail and an important part of the history of SMIRNOFF vodka, so we felt it was holiday worthy starting March 3, 2017. Cocktails with three quality ingredients provide the perfect picture for anyone over the age of 21 to be able to create and enjoy responsibly, especially on Moscow National Mule Day.
On March 3, 2017 and every upcoming "3-3" day, celebrate Moscow National Mule Day by toasting a cold copper mug and toast to #TheOriginalMule made with SMIRNOFF™ vodka. Remember that smart choices are just as important now as they were 75 years ago when cocktails were created; make sure you have planned a safe route home after enjoying Smirnoff Moscow Mules.
SMIRNOFF Vodka is the best-selling premium vodka in the world. As a tasteless and odorless vodka, the blendability of SMIRNOFF™ No. 21 from the production process - filtered ten times and distilled three times - brings out the flavors of ginger and lemon beer and remains the vodka of choice for Moscow Mule.
