National Sticker Day
National Sticker Day is observed next on Monday, January 13th, 2025 (52 days from today).
National Sticker Day is a celebration held on January 13 every year. Stickers can be seen on a variety of things, from nameplates to the ones the kids use to decorate. Of course, anyone's childhood memories will surely have some sticker collection. Many of us will enjoy collecting decorative stickers out of habit even as adults. Stickers are usually printed labels that vary in size, shape, color, and place of use. With so much popularity, all different types of stickers are celebrated with a Calendar Day. National Sticker Day was celebrated in honor of R Stanton Avery.
History of National Sticker Day
National Sticker Day has been celebrated since 2016. StickerGiant, an advertising sticker and product label company from Longmont, Colorado has launched such a Day for stickers. Along with the Independence Day Calendar, StickerGiant has set up this Anniversary Day for stickers or labels. The anniversary honors Ray Stanton Avery, the original creator of the adhesive label with a removable back. The date was chosen precisely because it marked the anniversary of Avery's birth. A sticker is a type of label made with a printed piece of paper or plastic. In 1935, Avery created the 'Kum Kleen Price Sticker' and it was the first commercial self-adhesive label.
Historians note European merchants because they are the first people who label their wares in the 1880s. They worked hard to promote their wares and those of passersby. Early pre-industrial traders used glue to make the labels stick well. A sticker-specific patch was developed in the 1900s. It was widely used on stamps and could then be re-applied when moistened. StickerGiant set a Guinness World Record for Largest Sticker Ball during the first National Sticker Day celebration held in 2016. The record is a sticker ball of 231.6 pounds and 8.8 feet around.
