Weed Your Garden Day on June 13th each year is a reminder to all gardeners to take an extra 5 or 10 minutes while weeding their gardens.
Every good gardener knows that gardening is just as necessary as watering plants or enriching the soil. Weeds grow very quickly and if you're not paying attention, they can even take away nutrients and space from other plants. We recommend weeding regularly as it can become overrun if the garden is left unattended for a long time. You can also check for weed growth by using weed-free soil and not letting the weeds sow seeds.
History of Weed Your Garden Day
Gardening is a hobby, a relaxing hobby for many of us. While some enjoy the flower garden, others may enjoy tending the garden in the kitchen. Not only is a garden a readily available source of herbs, fruits, vegetables, and flowers, but spending time with plants can also help improve your mood. Gardeners are also better equipped to deal with stress and other negative emotions. While weeding is one of the more important aspects of gardening, it is essential to remove weeds regularly to ensure that your plants stay healthy. Weeding can be done by hand or by machine with a lawn mower. Some of the most common weeds you'll spot in your garden are dandelions, clover, common weeds and daisies.
Gardening is not only a hobby but also an expression of creativity and cultural pride. Many gardens are famous as displays of nature and art, and may even symbolize social status or national pride. Almost all cultures from time immemorial have planned and invested in private and public gardens. From emperors to city planners, patrons have always encouraged the construction of large gardens to beautify the city. In fact, some of the gardens have been so beautifully constructed that they have been elevated to heritage status and must-visit attractions. It is also not uncommon to find pools, temples and mausoleums in gardens that date back centuries. It often has gazebos, nurseries, and benches on the premises in modern gardens. Sometimes a garden can also be doubled as a venue for weddings and parties.

How to celebrate Weed Your Garden Day
Spend the day weeding for an extra 5 to 10 minutes! Before you start, soak the soil with water, this will make it easier to pull out weeds that have taken root, preventing them from growing back. If it's impractical to remove the roots, the next best thing you can do is chop off their heads. This will reduce the amount of seeding that will occur and the weeds will use their energy to try to heal themselves instead of spreading. If you can get to their roots, try using a sharp knife to cut them off, so you don't disturb the nearby soil or spread any more weed seeds around.
Apply mulch after weeding. This will help keep the new weed seeds from growing, as they won't be able to receive any light. To ensure light blocking, lay down some newspaper, cardboard, or biodegradable fabric before putting down the cover. Mulch should be about 2 inches deep and organic mulch should be used, as it may contain beetles or crickets that feed on weed seeds.
Making sure you have healthy soil from the start, with plenty of organic matter, will help limit the number of weeds you have. In addition, the way you plant it makes a difference plants that are close together will limit the amount of weed growth, and the shade they provide will also help keep weeds from growing. You can usually plant with about 25% less spacing than what is recommended.
Removing weed seeds from the water is also helpful. Drip or sprinklers do this, as they water the plants underneath the mulch, but don't let the weed seeds dry out. This can reduce weed germination by up to 50 percent. However, this may not prevent ingrained perennial weeds such as seaweed and nutsedge. Drip irrigation can really benefit them.
