Flower Day
Flower Day is observed next on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025 (179 days from today).
Flower Day features Metro Detroit Florists Association vendors from across the Midwest and will feature additional festivities for all ages.
Flower Day is on March 21st every year. We don't know about you, but the flowers make us an infinitely more beautiful and happier bunch! We love the way they bloom - no questions asked. The flower's approach to life is worth emulating! Not only do they bring us joy, but there's a flower for almost any mood. Whether expressing grief, love, gratitude or appreciation, flowers speak best when our words fail.
History of Flower Day
National Flower Day occurs near the beginning of spring, and is an appropriate day for people to give or plant flowers. Flowers are revered by everyone because of their beauty and scent. They are associated with romance, medicine, ritual and religion, and are even used as a source of food. They are commonly used in baptisms, funerals and sympathies, for weddings and parties, as corsets and vestments at social functions and holidays, as well as home decoration. They are also used to worship goddesses, brought to temples by Hindu devotees.
There are some flowering vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and artichokes, and some flowers are used as seasonings such as crocus which produces saffron cloves and capers. Hops are used in beer, and dandelions and elderberries are used in wine. Flowers can also be ingredients in making herbal teas.
Some flowers are associated with certain meanings. For example, red roses are associated with love, poppies with consolation after death, irises and lilies with burial, and chrysanthemums with innocence. Flowers have also been included in poetry by writers and painters in paintings.

- Do something with edible flowers.
- Learn interesting facts about flowers.
- Buy lotion or soap with flower extracts, or make your own.
- Take a lavender bath or fill your home with the scent of roses and jasmine.
- Read poetry about flowers like William Wordsworth's "I wandered lonely like a cloud" or William Blake's "Ah! Sun-Flower."
