On April 23, 2011, the first episode of the sixth season of the "Doctor Who" series aired on television as "The Impossible Astronaut". In fact, this sci-fi series first appeared on television in 1963.
The show has garnered fans of different generations and it follows the adventures of the Doctor, a time-traveling 'alien'. The Doctor travels through time and space in a time machine that is also a spaceship, known as the Tardis. Tardis looks like a discreet London police box from the 1960s.
The episode "Impossible Astronaut" quickly became one of the most viewed and highly rated episodes. In this episode, the content is the introduction of new alien monsters, called Silence. The characters cannot remember that they saw the alien monsters when they took their eyes off them. To remind themselves that they've seen monsters, the characters begin tally marks on their skins.
To celebrate this day, all Whovians draw tally marks on their skin or body parts. As an inside joke, fans act normal and pretend they don't know why the tally points are there.
