History of National Devil Dog Day
These creamy delicious treats appear to get their name from the Marines, although the origin of these treats can't be verified. Apparently, the Germans dubbed the US Marines the 'Dangerous Dog' during World War I, for their perseverance and sheer determination under fire. The phrase became widespread, appearing on US recruitment posters, in poems and songs, in movies, and even on sports team names, which inspired a cake, where our story begins.
Devil Dogs are often kept in his cupboard by Howard Leslie Sobel, a practice his nephew Sean Alexander Sobel loves. He expects to find something in his grandfather's cupboard, taking out something to eat together, which formed a family tradition and inspired Sean to celebrate National Devil Dog Day in honor of his grandfather's memory.
Hostess Brands, an American bakery company is the owner of Drake's, originally create the idea for Devil Dogs. They went bankrupt in 2012 and were acquired by another fast food and granola producer, McKee Foods Corporation, the following year. The company has planned to reintroduce many of its best-selling products, such as Ring Dings, Yankee Doodles, and Devil Dogs.
Why National Devil Dog Day?
It is a clear fact that the armed forces have a huge role to play in keeping the country safe. From involve in wars and handle other natural and catastrophic situations inland, the marines have served the country relentlessly. Their perseverance and diligence during the First World War, where they fought against the Germans, led the German Army to give them the name "TeufelHunden". This word literally translates to "Demon Dogs" or you can say it means dogs from hell. This has been further popularized in the country thanks to the many films, poems, songs and snack cakes made in memory of their services. Bad Dog Day is celebrated to honor the heroes of the Marines and also to enjoy the devil's great snack, ice cream sandwiched between two devil food cakes.
